Changing filters in your home is part of being a homeowner. This repeating task will not only help extend the quality of the appliances in your home but will also improve the condition of your home’s environment. It’s a good idea to keep track of when you change each filter so you know when it’s time to change them again. Setting a recurring reminder in your calendar is one way to ensure this task gets completed.

HVAC

This is one of the most common filters to change because it’s so vital for maintaining healthy air quality. It also prevents minor damage to your HVAC unit. It’s common to change this filter every three months, but if your household contains pets, it is probably a good idea to do it more frequently. The good thing is that it’s easy to notice when it’s time to change this filter by the amount of dust and debris that is visible on it.  

Kitchen Hood Vent

This filter is likely one that is thought about less often, but it’s still important. It’s recommended that this filter is also changed every three months. However, if you cook a lot, it can be beneficial to check it frequently and ensure there isn’t excessive gunk built-up. While you can purchase a new filter, it’s simpler to just clean your existing filter and replace it. 

Fridge Water Dispenser

If your fridge has a water dispenser that you drink from, you’ll want to keep the filter clean. Usually, your fridge will inform you when it’s time to replace it with a new one. 

Dryer

Changing your dryer filter is as simple as removing it and collecting the built-up lint. Doing this helps your dryer work more efficiently and use less energy. It’s typical to do this after one to two loads of laundry.
