Painting for Spring – Inside and Out

Categories: Uncategorized | Posted: April 4, 2017

Spring is in the air! Don’t you love the nice clean, crisp air hitting your face and your skin soaking up some sun! It feels refreshing doesn’t it? Should’t your home reflect that as well? Grab your paint and your brush and get ready for some fun!

Many people like to change the interior of their home based on the seasons and what is trending at the time. Right now, bright, airy colors are in such as pale blues, pinks and hint of vibrant yellows. If you don’t want to step out of your box and do some crazy color you could stick to a light beige or even white. When choosing something a little more subtle, you can accent with bright colors throughout the room.

Before starting your project, decide how much of a change you want to embark in. Do you want to change the color of every wall in the room or maybe just paint an accent wall? Or how drastic of a change do you want on the outside of your home? To help make that decision, head over to your local home improvement store and pick out different colors that you might want to use. You could even purchase a few sample cans so that you can actually see the paint on the walls. This will also allow you to see what it will look like with your furniture if painting the interior of your home. TIP: Be sure to look at the paint at all different times of day. You may like what it looks like in the morning but not at night or vice versus.

While at the store don’t forget the basics! Paint rollers, plastic sheeting, painters tape, edgers and freehand brushes. It is also good to have some spackle on hand in case you need to fill some nail holes. TIP: Keep in mind that there are many types of paint finishes: gloss, flat, egg shell, etc. Make sure you are picking the right sheen for the right room.

When it comes to painting the exterior of your home things can be a bit more difficult. First and foremost, if you have an HOA, make sure your paint color of choice is an approved color. Before painting be sure to pressure wash your house, repair any damage that has happened, if you wish, and remove any loose paint. Next, you will need to caulk all around the trim to ensure that all openings are sealed. Once you have prepped the exterior of your home, it is time to paint! Grab your paint sprayer and have fun! TIP: Just like the inside of your home, place plastics sheets over anything that you do not want paint to get on including doors, windows, light fixtures, plants, etc.

We hope that these tips have given you the confidence to update your home this Spring! Have some fun with! Invite some friends and family over for a little paint party and have a cookout afterwards.
